Festival WeatherTrax Live views increase by more than 50%

WeatherTrax Live data for the 2023 Cheltenham Festival was accessed almost 61,000 times between Monday, 13 March and Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Day, an increase of more than 50% on the corresponding period last year and for the first time with the majority of unique users arriving via the Jockey Club’s own servers.

WeatherTrax Live data comprises GoingMaps, GoingStick readings and real-time weather information streamed directly from the on-course WeatherTrax weather station including rainfall, windspeed & direction, temperature and humidity.

TurfTrax Managing Director Mike Maher said, “This year’s numbers reflect a significant increase in the appetite for accurate, reliable data among racegoers and horsemen and around sporting events in general.

“We were particularly pleased to see a vast increase in the number of users accessing the information via the Jockey Club’s own servers having worked more closely with the Jockey Club’s social media team to promote the WeatherTrax Live page on the Cheltenham website ahead of this year’s Festival.”

Almost two thirds of British racecourses now have the latest WeatherTrax weather stations installed or have upgraded existing equipment to provide the full suite of data.

“For the majority of race meetings weather data is freely available on the TurfTrax website alongside GoingStick readings, but the figures for the Cheltenham and other festival meetings clearly demonstrated the opportunity to engage though active promotion,” added Maher.
